Put your papers down. It’s time to pass them forward. Let’s see how you did on this week’s quiz.
Q: What canine related expression is used to indicate a very cold night?
A: When the temperatures get extremely cold, you’ll sometimes hear it described as a three dog night. This expression is said to come form the Aborigines of Australia where dogs, actually dingoes, were a part of their everyday life. On cold nights the Aborigines would sleep with the dogs to stay warm. When the temperature really plummeted, they needed 3 dogs to stay warm so they began using the expression to indicate when it was really cold.

If 3 dogs means an extremely cold night, I wonder what a 4 dog/3 cat night means. It can’t be good.
