Christmas Countdown Day 18- Meet the Blogger Blog Hop

And this post has what to do with Christmas?

I’m sure that’s what’s going through your mind. Maybe you can consider it a Christmas gift from me. You see, I tend to hide behind this blog. Being an introvert, blogging let’s me write and share information and I can be kind of anonymously. You won’t find much about me here and if you looked around the Internet you’d have a hard time finding any pictures of me. That’s my comfort zone.

It’s time to get out of my comfort zone. And I’m starting with this post for the Meet the Blogger Blog Hop.

So allow me to introduce myself-

Hi! I’m Dawn. Owner, pet parent, chief food bowl filler-upper, <insert your favorite pet person descriptor here> to 4 dogs, 6 cats, 4 birds, 2 guinea pigs, 1 ferret and 1 bunny. I know quite a crew, huh?

The first part of this Hop was to share a recent picture of ourselves. I tend to avoid the lens, but this is about getting out of my comfort zone so out came the camera to get a picture of me with my pets (I still needed a little of my comfort zone and pets are it.)

Trying to get a picture with the critters ended up being a little work.

My dogs were trying to hog the shot. And getting them all to cooperate at the same time just wasn’t happening.

My cat didn’t want to be part of a group shot. Escape was the only thing on Poughkeepsie’s mind.

My bird wanted to play with my fingers and not look at the camera. We both decided to go for the disinterested look. It’s works for models.

Then I found the secret, a nice calm guinea pig. Eurwheeka wins the prize for making me look good.

Now the getting to know a little about me part-

  • What’s your favorite non-animal related movie?

Forrest Gump. I love how he is able to do so much- become a big college football star, meet the president, become a big ping pong player star, etc. I know it’s not reality, but I like to think it’s because he doesn’t stop to think what if. He doesn’t have a fear of failing. He just does. I aspire to be like that, at least just a little bit.

  • Who’s your favorite actor?

Tom Hanks. Aside from the fact that he is the start of my favorite movie, I just like him. He comes across as a nice guy who just so happens to have starred in some really great movies. I mean really how many big Oscar winning stars would do this?

  • What do you wish you were more skilled at?

Using my camera. I wanted a “good” camera with all the buttons so I could learn to take good quality pictures. I’ve had it for 5 years and still just take pictures on auto. Hopefully I can take that digital photographing course I’ve been wanting to take. One of the plusses of this blog hop is I learned how to use my timer and I discovered there is a button to take macro pics. Look out flowers and bugs!

  • What’s your favorite holiday?

It’s not really a holiday per say, but it’s marked on the calendar so I call it-  The First Day of Spring. Once there is a hint that spring is coming I start making almost daily trips around the yard to see what might have started poking it’s head out of the ground. Seeing a plant waking up from winter is as much fun as opening Christmas presents for me.

  • What do you like to do in your free time?

Free time? What’s free time? Okay, I do get some. When I’m not working at my job, blogging or sleeping (which some days seems to be all I do), I like to garden, be a little crafty (trying to get more proficient in needle felting right now), spend time to dog sports (hopefully Ricochet will start a scent work class in the new year) and read(although not as much as a like or should).

There’s just a little peek at me, not much I know but it’s a start!

lol – great photos! What’s that they say in Hollywood about working with animals?
I’m with you on Tom Hanks – I’ll see any more of his without hesitation. 99% of the time, that tactic pays off, too.

Great to meet you and your blog. You got me laughing with “disinterested look. It’s works for models.” It’s a look My dog will give me if I don’t have her payment near by (treats)

Hi Dawn, nice to meet you! Like you, I’d love to learn more about photography. I tend to just use the ‘auto’ button too 🙂 Looking forward to reading more of your blog x

The one of you and Eurwheeka is delightful, but the serious bird model pose is my favorite!

I love your analysis of Forest Gump – sometimes I overthink myself right out of things.

Loved reading your post!

Oh I LOVED your holiday answer! I do the same thing – even before spring really come to the yard I start looking for the late winter flowers poking up around the yard. But once the snow melts, I love looking for the little heads poking through the earth. What a great answer. (Wish I’d thought of it. 😉

I can also totally relate to the camera thing. I got the faster non-SLR camera I could find just so I could actually get Bella in some shots but I still haven’t figured out everything I can do with it. It’s on my winter to-do list.

Yay for you and stepping out of your comfort zone! It’s great to see you hanging out in Blogville. 😉 I like the cat photo, you gotta love cats. They are so independent!

It’s been nice seeing human faces in blog land today! I love the photo of you and your Grey. 🙂 What a sweetie! I’ve become accustomed to outside birds, though, and there’s no going back! Chickens and ducks – it’s the wave of the future.

Eurwheeka?!! Omigosh, that made us laugh so hard! It’s great to meet other guinea piggies online, whee don’t see many of us around here. Whee think hoomans always look better with a guinea pig around, it’s a known fact!

So nice to meet you, Dawn! I was not familiar with your blog before this, so I am looking forward to reading more of it also. You have quite the crew of pets…we have 3 dogs (with another addition coming soon) and 2 cats. At the most we once had 4 and 4.
I love Tom Hanks too, for the same reasons you do!

Great pics…and that is quite a crew you have there. 🙂
I’m terrible with my camera, but it’s also ancient. I hope you find the time to take that class and put that camera of yours to use.
Thanks for co-hosting. This is turning out to be quite the enjoyable blog hop.

I was howling at this post as so many people have told my mom that they can’t find anything about her on the internet! Almost everything done online is under me. I was lucky to coax her out for this hop! Nice to meet everyone that is hiding out there!

I had no idea you had so many pets Dawn! How do you find the time? I so admire you. Clearly you have learned how to balance it all. I had 4 pets until last summer when I lost my cat Nick. I decided that I would wait to add any more so I could focus on the three dogs. You clearly know how to balance it all better than me.

I am so glad we did this hop! I feel like I got to know you better!

I love the disinterested parrot photo. Oh Dawn! It’s amazing! I too, am a camera dunce. I think we all need to corral MRs. Taleteller and coerce her to share her secrets…and here’s what I want to know from you: How the heck do you keep up with that brood?! You’re awesome

Having a schedule for the crew is the only way! Luckily they are all pretty easy going.

I would love to have Mrs. Taleteller give us some camera tips. Her photos are so beautiful.
